Visiting Akihabara - day or night?

I was planning to visit Akiba, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for visiting it during the day or night? Do most of the stores stay open later during the weekend? Thanks!

Although some remain open a little longer, a lot of shops close around 8pm (weekday and weekend). I recommend to visit before that.
