what’s a good present?

I cannot think of what to get my boyfriend for his birthday. He's late 30s and doesn't like brands.

I will cook his favorite foods, but also want to get a small gift (not too expensive, since we have only dated 4 months)

He bought me a bag for my birthday but it wasn't a brand and didn't seem so expensive.
Any ideas?

I always care about a cost performance, when I buy something. However, I know that a high quality product can be kept using.

So there are two option, as follows;
1. Goods with a high quality and not expensive
Ex. Automatic(mechanical) pencil

Ex. usuful and nice taste necktie
(A solid storong color tie such as
indigo or wine red goes with every shirt)

For me, only the favorite food/dish is enough, especially a fish dish is impressed.
Although I live alone, I prefer cooking meat dishes to fish dishes. Because meat dishes are easy to cook.
