Applying to JET program 2 years in advance

Is it possible to apply through lets say the JET program 2 years in advance? The reason being i'd rather be travelling through other countries in Asia before going to Japan for a one year contract.
Also would an average ALT make just enough money to live in Japan or more than enough?
(I reckon ill have a hefty loan to pay off)

No, it is not possible.

It depends on who you are working for. JET salary is fixed at 300,000 yen per month, which is a good amount for most people even after living expenses. Private ALTs salaries can vary all over the board, and I know some people making less than half the JET salary.
