Question about dogs' names

A coworker started talking about her two dogs, "Kaiametsui" and "Sasha-kai." She got the names from a family member who had been stationed in Japan and told her that they meant "Little Big Eyes" and "Little Love" respectively.
I didn't want to say anything at the time, but I don't see how those names translate into those syllables. I'm not overlooking anything here, am I?
