not necessary to ay NHK licence fee? 2010/8/29 11:51
I only use my TV in Japan to watch dvd's but I have to pay the 14K per year licence fee. However, with the changeover to digital next year, all analog TVs can no longer receive NHK broadcasts. Does this mean that the fee is no longer required of anyone only having an old analog TV sets? I could ask NHK but I will ask here first.

Thanks

A news site asked the question to NHK and got the answer you had guessed.

The site also suggests you to inform NHK that you don't need to pay anymore because you don't have digital TV set. Otherwise NHK continues to send you their bill.
