Sumo Wresting in October? 2010/9/1 01:09
My son would like to watch the actual sumo wresting when we visit Tokyo & Kyoto during mid October. Doesn't matter even if it is not a competition.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Jane

There is no tournament in October. But they have some exhibition performances in late October, although it might be difficult to get tickets from overseas and they might be sold out by the time you arrive in Japan.

Here is the schedule for locations close to Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto:

10/17 Yokohama (just next to Tokyo)
10/23 Amagasaki, Hyogo (just outside Osaka)
10/24 Otsu (just outside Kyoto)
10/25 Otsu (just outside Kyoto)

The schedule in Japanese:

It seems that the following service can get you tickets for the Yokohama event:

Fun watching Sumo 2010/9/5 02:33
We've been in Japan 3 years in a row during Sumo and spent a lot of time watching it on TV. However, when it came to live viewing, what worked best for us was to go around 2 PM and stay until close... not the whole day. The matches were fun and it was just enough..

I realize there is no tournaments, so maybe the exhibition matches are different, but jst wanted to share my experiences with you.
