This is the loveliest ... 2010/9/3 23:50
Hi.
I have a question regarding where to place the adjectives or subordinate sentences.
The sentences I wanted to write was:

"This is the loveliest bachata that I danced with Maria last night"

Then I started trying to build the sentence.

I think I can build them separately.

これはマリアと踊ったバチャータです。
This is the bachata I danced with Maria.

これは昨夜の一番美しいバチャータです。
This is last night's loveliest bachata.

But I don't see how to put them together because of where to place the different parts of the sentence.

I tried several:

これは昨夜のマリアと踊った一番美しいばちゃーたです。
In this one I don't feel comfortable with 一番美しい placed after the verb. Either with 昨夜 so far way from the rest (it looks like I'm talking about last night's Maria and not last night's bachata)

Another one:
こいはマリアと昨夜の一番美しい踊ったバチャータです。
here the point is with 美しい in front of a verb. Adjectives should modify adjectives. Could it be solved by this: これはマリアと昨夜の一番美しいの踊ったばちゃーたです。

And in my last try I decided to make an adverb out of 美しい。

これはマリアと昨夜の一番美しく踊ったばちゃーたです。

Maybe even 美しい is not the right word here. But at least I tried.

Anyone would like to point out what's wrong, what's right and how to do it?

Thank you in advance.

The sentence would be different depending on exactly what you mean.
(1) "I danced many bachata with Maria last night, and (referring to one of them in particularly, maybe pointing at a photo of THAT dance someone took) THIS was the loveliest one," or
(2) "I've danced many bachata so far in my life, and the one I did with Maria last night was the best ever so far."

(1) これが、昨夜マリアと踊ったバチャータの中で、一番すてきなバチャータです。
(This, of the bachata I danced with Maria last night, is the most beautiful/wonderful bachata.)

(2) 昨夜マリアと踊ったバチャータが、(今までで)一番すてきなバチャータです。
(The bachata I danced with Maria last night was the most wonderful bachata (ever).)

It changes a little according to your different emphasis.
If there were other dance partners,
昨夜は、マリアと踊ったバチャータが、もっとも素敵でした。
The bachata I danced with Maria was the loveliest last night.
If it was the best ever bachata for you,
昨夜(の or に)マリアと踊ったバチャータが、もっとも素敵でした。
The bachata I danced with Maria last night was the loveliest.
