Do the Japanese typically go grocery shopping daily to buy the ingredients for meals (since I imagine they want the freshest ingredients)?

It obviously differs widely between households. And I think it is dangerous to make any detailed generalizations without knowing some reliable statistics. But daily grocery is definitely not uncommon in Japan for foods such as fresh fish and meat, vegetables and bread.

I think it is far less common to do bulk shopping in Japan.
Places like Costco are becoming more popular but on the whole grocery shopping is done frequently and locally.
