Homestay in Japan? 2010/12/17 15:39
I was wondering what the best way would be to write a homestay ad. I'm looking into going to Japan for a few months next year (probably during the summer) and I have a very limited budget, so I'm looking for any way to save money. How should I ask for a homestay? I can speak very basic Japanese, and I'm currently going to college to get my English BS and TEFL Certification, so I could probably teach English in exchange for room and board. Any and all advice will be appreciated! Thank you very much!

You might want to try Couchsurfing: http://www.couchsurfing.com/

Its the biggest hospitality network, I am a member and I have had good experiences with it hosting people in my house.

Unfortunately I can't accommodate a guest for the whole summer, but I'm sure its possible to find someone that is willing to do so.

In 3 weeks my wife and i will be going to Japan. We found a family on http://www.homestayweb.com/ who we have arranged to stay with for 2 months. You pay a $20 fee which allows you to contact families who have posted ads and then you organise everything directly with the family. it has worked really well for us.
