How to arrive from Kyoto to Iga Ueno and is it worth visiting it? In particular Ninja place - is it some kind of kid amusement park or a historical site/museum? Thanks.

There are two possible routes, which cost the same (1110 Yen one way), both require two transfers of trains and take about the same time (about 90-120 minutes). Depending on the connections, one or the other is faster.

One is from Kyoto by JR Nara Line to Kizu and then on the JR Kansai Line to Iga Ueno (with a transfer at Kamo).

The other is from Kyoto by JR Biwako Line to Kusatsu, then by JR Kusatsu Line to Tsuge and then by JR Kansai Line to Iga Ueno.

You can check the timetable here:

Enter "Igaueno", as it does not recognize "Iga Ueno" or "Iga-Ueno".

I don't know if it is worth visiting, as I have not been there yet.

Iga Ueno 2004/8/12 11:16
I have been to Ueno, and all I can tell you is that if you are a ninja maniac, you will love the city. If not, there's not much worth seeing other than Ueno Castle. Oh, there's the Ninja Train as well.
