i live in singapore. may i know am i able to buy an empty handphone in japan and put my own sim card in to use in singapore? i love the handphone designs in japan!

Yes, but you can't purchase them directly from the major carriers. You're best bet is to check out the shops around Akihabara, or secondhand shops that deal in electronics. However, whether or not the handset will work on the networks in Singapore depends on the particular model, so make sure to do your homework ahead of time.
