Lone traveller to Noto Hanto 2011/1/15 22:56
I'm thinking of planning a trip to Noto Peninsular from Shirakawago. I'll be traveling alone so public transportation is the most viable option. However I know the bus network in Noto is very limited and it will be a challenge to cover most of the attractions by bus.

Is it worth making a trip there then?

The network is actually pretty dense, but service is infrequent on many routes, and getting from A to B often requires one or more transfers along the way. I think it would be challenging and time consuming to travel by bus. Renting a car makes getting around much easier and faster.

Is it worth making a trip there then?

It depends on the person. Some people like to challenge themselves and explore off the beaten track at a slow pace. Others don't find such a travel style worth it. It also depends on how much you want to see. Some parts of the peninsula are not that hard to access by bus.

Noto 2011/1/18 21:07
I was quite near once, because I did a sidetrip from Kanazawa. I visited Hakui because I wanted to see the Nihonkai. I also wanted to go further to north, but the bus timetable was not made for one day visitors.

If you overnight at Noto than it's no problem, but you'll have to make your own schedule for the buses.

Go from Kanazawa 2011/1/19 10:04
http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/location/rtg/pdf/pg-404.pdf

We did our first ever one day bus tour from Kanazawa to the Noto Peninsula, and really enjoyed this day. The places and scenery were fabulous; the company great fun even though they spoke little English and we spoke minimal Japanese; lunch was stunning; and it was nice for a change to not have to be navigating and thinking all day. The tour is only in Japanese, but enough English is given at the places we visit to work out the main interests.
It was to Wajima, Sojiji, Noto Kongo coast and Chirihma beach. It left at 7.50am and we were back by about 4pm.

Cost of taking the bus in Noto 2011/1/19 14:54
Thanks for all the advice.

I think I will stay 1 night in Noto and try taking the public bus. Any idea what's the average cost of taking the Hokutetsu bus per route in Noto?

The fare depends on the distance traveled. A very, very rough estimate would be about 10-20 yen per minute.
