Takayama Shops Closing Days

I read in another thread that shops in Takayama are closed on Tuesdays. Is this so all year, or was that OP unlucky to be there a day after a Public Holiday Monday?

It seems that quite a few shops are, indeed, closed on Tuesdays, especially in the winter. The following website should give you a good idea:
