Food in main luggage 2011/2/22 19:35
Please help! I'm going to Japan in April. Am I allowed to take some food in my main luggage (ex. cheese or sausage). I'm asking, because I won't have any problems after arrival.

Cheese is fine, I usually bring some to Japan when I go. processed meat should be fine too. I believe fresh fruit/vegetables could be an issue

Meat not usually allowed 2011/2/23 07:26
Actually I know that beef jerky is not allowed to be brought into japan unless specially packed and certified, so I would guess it is the same for sausages. It doesn't matter where in your luggage it is carried.

Japan has had several foot and mouth disease outbreaks in the last couple of years so I would expect them to be quite strict about this.
