Studying martial arts 2011/6/21 17:37
Hey, I plan to some day study martial arts in japan. However I'm not sure how to go about it.I know its apart of their culture and i don't want to some how come across as offensive. I'm very very passionate about martial arts and When I study i want to learn more about the culture and experience it not just read about it. I want to learn martial arts from where it originated and get as close to as i possibly can. Any advice would be great.

~Thanks

Karate/ K1 Kickboxing 2011/6/22 15:15
When I moved to Japan 10 years ago I worked out at a Karate studio that also did K1 training. Since I was already a black belt in Taekwondo I didn't much care for learning Karate, and instead spent my time on the K1 side learning how to box. It's a good studio and isn't too expensive.

It's in the back alley I marked on the map below on the 2nd floor. I haven't been there in ages, but I don't imagine it would have gone away.

"Well I've already had some experience with Jujitsu Hapkido TKD and boxing "

What is some for you? How long you study?

"But I'd like to learn Shotokan Karate Kyokushin Battojutsu and Jujitsu at least and possibly Aikido and Muay Thai."

So, Shotokan and Akido is not a Problem, a lot of very good Schools in Japan.

Kyokushin, after Oyama's death, is for me not the same, several groups broke away from the IKO, and lot of Dojos teach a very different Kyokushin now in Japan.

JuJutsu is death in Japan, the most Japanese not know JuJutsu, but few People bring back JuJutsu.

Muay Thai: Japan is not Thailand, but I know few good Gyms.

How long you want study in Japan?

But start with one or two only.......

When you want, you can come to me for JuJutsu and Muay Thai. But I not Japanese, I hope is ok for you.............

Preperation 2011/6/24 14:58
I'm currently training with a marine core recruiting office to lose the last of the weight i gotta drop. as far as a school it will more then likely be in the states. I'm not sure what will happen in the future the USMC and japan are both major steps in my dream to open up my own school of martial arts. I want to teach the generations to come that theirs more to the world then materialism. Hopefully the teachings and ways of the empty hand will do some good.
