What are those Japanese tapping sticks? 2011/10/2 17:56
Does anyone know what the name of those Japanese tapping sticks are that they bang together loudly before the Kabuki? Where would I buy a pair? Is there a history to them?

They're called Hyoshigi and are used in both theater, festivals, and taiko.

You can buy them at musical instrument stores, especially taiko shops or stores that carry a variety of traditional instruments. They're also found online. It's pretty easy to make a pair out of a length of hardwood and some thick cord.
