How to find Out of Print books in Japan 2011/12/16 16:23
Does anyone know a website that sells out of print Japanese books in near mint condition. I'm looking for two books that my wife has been searching forever for to complete her set.

It's easy to come across them in a second hand book store or online on Amazon. But second hand books freak my wife out as she doesn't know where they've been etc. I've tried to explain that because the books are out of print, she will have to get second hand ones to complete her set.

So I'm looking for an online bookstore (other than Amazon and yahoo) that sells out of print books in excellent or near mint condition.

The books I'm after are by Kuniko Mukouda (向田邦子 - むこうだ くにこ) and are called
せい子・宙太郎〈上〉and せい子・宙太郎〈下〉

Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Adam

Book Off is one of the largest used book dealers (buy/sell) nationwide, I guess, and they have せい子・宙太郎(下)now for 250 yen. Check the web below. The books they are selling are fairly in a good condition all the time.

For (上), by registering yourself in the web, they tell you when the book comes into their stock list. So, you can't miss it.

Try Super-Genji.
You can check the condition of the book.

Adam,

If she's scared about not knowing "where they've been etc." I think Amazon is the best place to search, because they handle a lot of second-hand book shops on their "Marketplace" and the merchandise are rated (excellent condition, fair etc.) At least a lot of them have been literally nowhere as opposed to Book-off.

I've bought quite a few books from Amazon Marketplace and they are always as described which is mostly brand-new looking.

There are of course websites like fukkan.com (http://www.fukkan.com/) where you can request to have out-of-print books re-printed, but I found the one I seek from Amazon Marketplace before fukkan granted my wish.

This site covers about 900 second hand bookstores.

You may find some that are ''new 新品'' or ''almost new 新品同様''.
If one has time and reads Japanese, exploring Jinbocho should be fun.
