Best Designer Vinyl/Plush Toystores in Tokyo? 2012/1/31 05:58
Our family will be taking a vacation to Japan this year and I wanted to see if anyone had some recommendations on the best places in and around Tokyo to shop for Designer or Urban Vinyl/Plush toys.

I'm near Los Angeles and we have about 4-5 stores that perfectly fit this genre of shopping, and with Tokyo being even bigger I'm guessing they have similar shops too -- some bigger and more well-known; some smaller and harder to find.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!!!

Try Kiddy Land:

Also Yodobashi Camera at Akihabara has a big toy section and you may find other smaller stores in the area if you walk about.

Finally, Yamashiroya toy store is just across the stret from ueno station, here is a Google map:

Matty, if you go into the basement level of Tokyo Station, near the Yaesu (or east) exit you will find 'Character Street'.

Here you will find about 15 different stores selling many and various different plush characters from many different Japanese TV shows, animations, movies and more.

For designer/vinyl toys the best place to go is Nakano Broadway - there are a number of tiny shops inside that specialize in various kinds of vinyl toys and collectibles.

Here's a review and map: http://whereintokyo.com/venues/25361.html

Inside Nakano Broadway you'll also find the headquarters of Mandarake, the world's largest comic-book store.
