Banks in Kyoto 2012/3/18 18:58
I was wondering if I'd have trouble looking for banks or money changers in Kyoto? I'll be mostly in the Eastern part of Kyoto, i.e. Kiyomizu Dera, Gion, Fushimi Inari, etc. I wanted to have a plan b in case my ATM cards won't work.

You be better off changing you money at a post office, the rates are better and they are quicker than using a bank. Not all post offices offer currency exchange, usually the larger ones and up until 4.00 pm, central post offices (usually by the main railway stations) exchange until 7.00 pm.

@robbeer

I did hear it would be better to change currency in the post office. Is there one near the gion area?

Thanks a lot!
