Hi,

Ive been trying to grow sakura from the seed, and it takes months it doesnt even germinate yet, and I hope it didnt fail.

I will be coming to tokyo next week, and hoping if I can buy a young plant of sakura, or the seeds, so I cant plant it back home..

Do you have any specific variety in mind?

As you might know, the large majority of Japanese flowering cherries do not produce seeds and do not grow from seeds. Rather they are grafted and can only be bought as plants.

I believe the only exceptions are a few cherry tree varieties that grow wildly in Japan, but frankly they don't look as good as the human cultivated ones.

As where to buy them, they are sold through gardening specialist shops across the country. Some of the most popular varieties might even be available at common home centers.

Both, gardening specialist stores and home centers are much easier found in the suburbs than in central Tokyo. I am sorry I have no specific recommendation for a store.

When you say "bring home" do you mean within Japan or back to another country? If it is the latter, please check that your country does not have restrictions on importing plants.

SakatanoTane is the famous nationwide shop here who is selling sakura nursery stocks.

Big question as somebody mentioned above, is, at the hieghest risk the plant will be forfeited at the quarantine.

Famous sakura trees abroad is the Wansington DC sakura-lined road. When Japan sent two thousands of the trees to US decades ago, upon the reciept US found that all? the trees were affected by a desease and had to burn them out.

So it is not such an easy thing to do.

I have no typical requirement what kind of sakura tree. As long as it will bloom one day and easy to take care, I'm happy enough.

Yes, I'm bringing it back to my country, I only stop by 3days at tokyo, then go back to my country, we have requirements, but so far,I can handle the customs.

I wanted to buy at least 15-20cm lil tree. And would love to buy it while I'm there.
