Can I buy Japanese fake food online? 2012/5/22 10:16
I'm a big fan of the Japanese fake food and want to buy some souvenirs for family and friends. I know traveling to Kappabashi is an option but what about online? Any help would be great!

I'm not sure where you can buy online, but I hear those items are super expensive... may not be as interesting once you see the price tag. :) Good luck on the search though.

I found a site that sells some, but not sure if they deliver internationally... it's in Japanese, so you'll have to use a translation service or click around until you get to some of the items: http://www.maiduru.co.jp/

The link provided is for the shop that sells key chains, fridge magnets and cellphone straps with the food sample (small ones). If you want the full-sized ones, go to this link (the same company):
http://www.maiduru.biz/

If you click on the product categories (shown in blue font, headed by small blue "triangles") on the left side, you'll get to see the product photos with details.

Quite impressive prices - $US 200 for an apple, $120 for a pear. Maizuru does make the best food models though, IMHO.

Thank you to all for your responses!

I must say that with the Fake Food Japan site http://fakefoodjapan.com/ being all in English, it is quite helpful.

I appreciate the information about Maiduru as well.

I'll definitely come back to this board again with questions. Have a great one!

Are you going to Kyoto?
Kyoto Handicraft Center has them. See the first video.
