How to find a Hiking partner ? 2012/6/6 21:12
Hi,

I'm hiking throughout Japan from now to july 22th. Being alone feels kinda lonely so I am trying to find a hiking partner... but it's very difficult.

I met a japanese guy who told me about hiking clubs, but I can't contact them because I don't speak japanese :(

I tried to post ads, here, on Japan Guide, but I only managed to find people interested in going out to eat or have fun for one day. (I met 3 people, spent 3 awesome days... but I would like to go hiking more ^^)

I don't know how/where I can find a hiking partner. I guess you have japanese hiking websites and forums...
Can someone give me advice or help me find a hiking partner please ???

Thanks a lot :)

Hi, Samuel

How old are you? Do you definitely want to find a Japanese hiking partner? Mountain hiking is loved mainly by aged Japanese people over 50 years old. So, even if you can find any Japanese hiking partner somewhere, the partner will be "almost always" older (sometimes much older) than you just like your father/mother or your grandfather/grandmother. Do you mind hiking with a person whose age is around your father/mother? In my opinion, it may be quite difficult to find a young Japanese partner loving mountain hiking.

If you stay at a guest house or dormitory for backpackers visiting Japan, you might find your partner, so I recommend you to stay at such a guest house and talk with the backpackers living there.

Hi,

I'm 29. I don't mind hiking with older people. In fact I have many 50+ y.o. friends in France :) Moreover, when I hike I walk quite slowly... so it's great if I can hike with people who don't rush it and really enjoy the nature.

I stayed at a few guest house for backpackers, but most of the people I met there are only interested in visiting big cities or famous places... not going hiking. None of them had tent, sleeping bags, or anything to go hiking :(

I'll stay at other guest house while visiting japan. I hope I can meet some real backpackers/hikers :)

But if you have any contact or tips to find a partner, please tell me !

Hello everyone!

Because of me making an internship, weekend is sometimes the only possibilty to go for a hike.
I intend to hike through the Tanzawa area from 14th to 15th of august.

If somebody would like to join me, feel free to contact me. I would be happy about some comanionship.

greetings
