Smart Pit Cards?

So, I'm nearing the end of my stay in Tokyo and have been busy arranging the cancelation of various services. When I cancelled my internet however, I was sent a Smart Pit card with supposedly 8000yen on it, their way of refunding my initial deposit. The problem is, I have no idea how to use this thing. It seems to be meant for online purchases, but as I'm moving out of my apartment in a few days, I can't order anything. Will convenience stores accept the card? I wouldn't mind picking up an iTunes gift card or two before heading back to the States...
