Even if you live in the US, you can purchase a shamisen from several stores around Japan. Here are two examples of shamisen stores available to you: Kameya http://www.e-kameya.com/english/index.htmlThis store mainly ships traditional-style shamisens used in Mainland Japan (they are different from Okinawan shamisens). Asoviva http://www.asovivasanshin.com/index.htmlLocated in Okinawa, this store ships only Okinawan shamisens (called Sanshin), which are very different from shamisens typically used in Mainland Japan.

Hatsumomo19,
That's lovely of you to show interest in shamisen, but please note that maintenance would require money and specialist's technique, so I hope it's worth the money of your buying this costly instrument. Do also note that it's not the easiest instrument to play without a proper teacher.

Hei thank you very much for the answers. To the first one I have visited those websites. Thank you again :) And Uco-san thank you. I look forward to taking care of the instrument. Its a treasure I know that takes practice and dedication.
