Buying empty sake drums/barrels? 2012/7/26 10:14
Is it possible to buy those and take home as a souvenir? I mean the big ones (about a foot i diameter and height).

If so - how and where?

RasmusK,

A foot in diameter for a sake barrel is in fact quite small. You can buy them at liquor shops and department stores WITH the liquor inside. No big deal. Ask for "sake-daru."

Where are you from?
If from US, ask at Japanese sake breweries in California, one in Berkeley & do a tasting tour, too.

are you looking for something like this?

They sell those at several stores around the narita airport mall. I believe they are around 3000 yen. Make sure to buy them before you check in as they have to go into your checked luggage.

I am from Denmark:-)

I was in fact talking about the big casks that are 2 feet i diameter - I messed up in the measures.
If need be I'd have to buy them with the alcohol, only it will make them much much more expensive and I am only looking for the cask.
