Around JR Shin-Osaka station is a residential area. It is quiet and there are only a few restaurants/convenient stores still open at night time.

amazinga is correct, and GC3 is right, too, but even in Kita/Umeda or Minami/Namba areas, it will be only late-night restaurants and bars that would be open - department stores close around 7 or so, and other shops would typically close by 8 or 9 pm or so. There is no "night shopping" areas as there may be in some cities in other Asian nations.

Department stores don't close that early. Hankyu is open until 9pm Wed-Sat, and Hep Five is also open until 9 every night, as is Loft. Yodobashi Camera is open until 9:30pm. Many of the stores in the underground malls are also open at least that late.
