Hi,
Can you please suggest where to go (either in Osaka or Kyoto) for fine dining (romantic environment, nice view & japanese garden environment, quiet, mostfly suitable for couple) for dinner bday celebration?
I am looking for fine dining mainly for Japanese cuisine.
Thanks in advance for your help :)

It would help a lot if you let us know your budget. Kyoto has restaurants ranging from 5000Y to 50000Y per person that match your description.

luvsushi, I am a Japanese lived in Kyoto for 10 years, almost 30 years ago. I think Kyoto is the center of Japanese cuisine, so that I wish many people from foreign countries have fine cuisine in Kyoto while they are in Japan. I think it should be less expensive as compared to that in Tokyo and Osaka. Further, one should note that some Japanese style restaurants in Kyoto (Ryou-tei, —¿’à) have historical Japanese style rooms and gardens. http://www.japan-guide.com/forum/quereadisplay.html?0+81317

Here's what I'd suggest, but you have to keep in mind that I've never even been to Kyoto! In no particular order; ultra modern; A Womb (awomb.com) 7000Y course KAISEKI; Yachiyo (ryokan-yachiyo.com/top/englishtop.html) 7000-10000Y Minoko (minoko.co.jp) 15000Y kichisen-kyoto.com/en/cuisine.php 14000Y (this bloke won his Iron Chef battle) [the latter few are a bit over your price range, hopefully someone else can suggest a cheaper kaiseki meal] If you want a twist, try this cooking class for an evening; http://www.vegetarian-food-kyoto.com/index.htmlIf you have a non-smoking preference remember to ask when making the reservation.

In the Prince Hotel at Otsu there is a great japanese restaurant. It is up about the 30th floor from memory, with views over lake Biwa which is very pretty. Nothing is in english, though, even the prices. When we stayed a few years ago (at the Prince which is very nice) we just guessed and ended up with a kaseiki meal, it was 10000 JPY pp. It was spectaculr food
