Nakagin Capsule Tower 2012/8/9 17:35
Does anyone know if it's possible to get inside the tower and photograph a room? I believe no one lives there anymore nowadays and it was scheduled to be demolished. Is this true?

Best regards,

Marcus

I meant the famous tower in tokyo. (a well respected architectural wonder amongst photographers).

Thanks,

I cannot find anything more specific than the news report that its demolition has been decided.

There was one newspaper article saying that, after an exhibition last year to early this year in Roppongi (about architecture of this style), one of the capsule rooms was donated to a museum in Saitama, and that it was placed in their sculpture plaza on exhibit:

(THis was dated Jan. 16, 2012.)I cannot verify if this was one unit taken out from that building, or it was a "model room."

This is the museum:

Apparently the museum building was designed by the same architect.

On google maps the building still exists. Let's hope it's still there so i can take pictures from the outside at least.

Thanks for the info

We just drove past it yesterday (18 Aug 2012) on the way to the airport. Wish we could have gotten a picture of it. Hopefully it will still be there next year when we go back!
