I am interested in what happened with harajuku girls after Gwen Stefani's invasion. My family and I visited Tokyo in 2004 and one of the most vivid memories we have is from Harajuku. the girls were so unique and distinctive. Was that wonderful subculture comercialized?

The girls in Harajuku are the same before Gwen and now after her.
I don't think she had much impact, or any at all, to the normal "Harajuku girls". I think the effect was the other way around. The girls made an impact on Gwen.

I think Kodama is correct. Harajuku girls had been there many years way before Gwen came and went.

I searched "Gwen Stefani" and "グウェン・ステファニー" on google.co.jp, but there are no blog articles. She looks like unfamiliar face in Japan.

Harajuku is dead these days. I doubt that proto-gaga was responsible though.
