Camera shop in Osaka 2012/10/4 16:51
I need to find a good, big camera shop in Osaka.
Two questions:
1. Any pointers or recommendations for finding a camera shop close to the Kansai airport?
2. What time are such shops likely to be open until? (I fly in at 7pm next Tuesday evening and out again early the next morning. I need to buy a specific filter in that time).

Thanks for any help.

I am not sure there will be one in nearby Rinku Town.

What specific filter?

Bic Camera Namba is possibly your best bet but you may be cutting it fine as they close at 9pm. The 8:05pm Nankai Ltd. Exp. Rapit gets you to Namba at 8:42pm. There are a few options a little earlier which shave off a few minutes, depends how quick you are through customs etc.

Trains:-

A slightly better option may be Yodobashi Camera Umeda which is open until 10pm

Take the trains to JR Osaka Station and then walk to Yodobashi Umeda.

If you have time at the JR Office you can get the ICOCA + Haruka return package and take the Haruka + JR train to JR Osaka

Good luck!

Wow, thanks so much CG3, that is super helpful.
I hope I should be able to get to that shop by 10pm.
I need to buy a CPL filter 82mm. Preferably Hoya brand, HD, but so long as it's very good quality then another one would be OK.
I'll check out the trains etc.
Thanks again.

No worries!

Where do you go to from Kansai Airport? Tokyo?

Don't think Hoya filters are in Japan I think they are called Kenko. Not 100% sure they are the same but I think so. This may not be equivalent to "HD"

They should have a few other brands as well if you are lucky.

Further to what GC3 says Yodobashi camera are probably your best best. Their website also shows this Kenko Cpl filter. http://tinyurl.com/9dmn2wx If you know someone who speaks Japanese it might be worth making sure they have one in stock. Your hotel might be able to help.
Best of luck.

You could also try Labi 1 to the rear of Namba station. Camera equipment can be found on the 3rd floor and there are open until 10.00 pm:
