where to claim tax exemption?

i know most department store would be able to claim tax back. however if i buy some branded goods at boutique how would i be able to claim. some told me at airport, but i would like to know the exact place at airport, since we will be having a hard time communicating in english.

You can't, unless the boutique specifically offers a tax-free shopping for foreign visitors, which is not the case with virtually all boutiques in Japan. Generally speaking: only selected department and electronics in major tourist areas offer tax-free shopping.
