Hi,

ILm going to Japan on Saturday and ILve read that there will be some difficulties with the food.

My question is there any vegetarian sushi? Can I go to a typical Japanese sushi bar and order veggo sushi?

Yes, there are some types but often not too many and you will have to be careful that they are actually vegetarian depending on how strict you are.

Please don't go to a sushi restaurant if you're a vegetarian. Sushi places in Japan are all about the fish, and if you don't eat fish it's really pointless, and will just annoy the chef. There are so many other types of restaurants in Japan that you can go to.

You didn't mention if you'd be going to Tokyo, but if so there is one restaurant that specializes in vegetable sushi: http://www.bento.com/rev/3658.html
It's very good and well worth a visit, even for non-vegetarians.

One thing to be aware of is that many foods that are commonly listed on vegetarian sites are actually made with fish stock, and will not be considered vegetarian unless specifically made to be so.

There are few sushi dishes that I would trust to be vegetarian everywhere. Kappamaki and edamame come to mind, but not much else.

I'd suggest checking out this thread:
