Foraging for mushrooms 2012/11/18 15:19
Are there any places where foraging for mushrooms is allowed? Or are there guides who will take you on a mushrooming trip?

I suppose there are some farms allowing visitors to gather mushrooms. Which region in Japan will you visit?
You had better not pick wild mushrooms if you hope to taste one, even when a guide accompanies you. There is no perfect criterion to filter out noxious mushrooms.

It seems like almost every year you hear news of a family here ending up hospitalized because they have eaten the wrong mushrooms. Be very very careful if you do go looking for them in the forest or similar.

Foraging for mushrooms is a specialized activity, seasonal and these enthusiasts have a nose and eye in spotting such gems.

Wild mushrooms are rare finds, higher potency treasures.

Rarely, you will find anyone willing to recommend a guide catering to non locals, not family members on these secretive expeditions.
