New Years Day in Tokyo - Shop opening hours

Hi again everyone.
As we are many years, we will be in Tokyo over New Years.
We've noticed in the past few years, more and more shops are open on New Years Day.
Normally, we go to a temple area on New Years Day, because things are open around temples.
However, two years ago, most of the Harajuku and Omotesando areas were open on New Years Day, and the shops in Ikebukuro list that they are open on holidays too.
Does anyone know for sure if these shops are open? Specifically around the Ikebukuro and Shinjuku areas?

Except for the store not profiting, I guarantee that all the stores are open.

I just checked Seibu Department store (Ikebukuro) website, and they specifically mention that they will be open on New Year's Day 2013. That probably means other large stores around there would follow suit too...

Yes, I've checked on the Tobu, Seibu, Sunshine City and other websites in the area and they all pretty much say they'll be open till 8pm.
Wondering if the smaller shops will be open also...
