Breakfast at Tokyo station from 6 am 2012/12/31 16:33
I plan to exchange my JR pass ( so that I may go to Takayama )at Tokyo station which open at 7.30 am. I do not wish to carry my bags all over Tokyo; can someone suggest a place to eat at Tokyo station or nearby which open for breakfast by 6 or 7 am. Please do not recommend hotel or western restaurant.
Thank you

Honestly I am not familiar with Tokyo station area, but google search tells me that there are not so many options if you would like to eat as early as 600. I found some questions and answers in the internet (in Japanese) as to early eating places around Tokyo station. I think most suitable answer to you is Matuya Yaesu-ten. It is open 24 hrs.

Of course it is not a fashionable eating place, but you can enjoy ordinary Japanese food.

Enjoy your trip in Japan!

We've stayed very close to Tokyo Station the last three years. Just East of the station, on a small North-south street, very close to the place mentioned above by Frog1954, are two restaurants which serve Japanese breakfasts. They're hearty and inexpensive, and they're open very early (like about 4AM). Sorry but I don't remember the names. They are located one block east of the Yaesu Book Center.

Technology is great. Here are links to the two places on google maps with street views. Just remember that the food isn't fancy, and you bus your own dishes. But we thought the food was reasonably good, expecially given the low prices.

@Oenophile Angler, The sign for the first store says せんわんそば (Senwan Soba). You can find an image of the picture menu if you do a google image search for it's name in Japanese. The sign for the 2nd place says 神戸らんぷ亭 (Kobe Ranpu Tei). Their picture menu can be found at http://kobelamptei.co.jp/update/menu/, but will need to use google translate if you can't read Japanese.

Actually, the first sign says せんねんそば (Sennen soba), not senwan soba.

OP you have some strange restrictions. If you want Japanese breakfast you should know that most places that serve good Japanese breakfasts are either hotel restaurants or family restaurants.
