Can I recharge my Kindle using the outlets? 2013/1/22 14:16
The cable for charging the Kindle battery has a two prong adapter. The responses about electrical current and voltage posted elsewhere on this website indicate that sensitive equipment might not function or might be damaged. Is a Kindle reader such equipment?

Yes, the (presumably US) kindle charger, which is really just a standard usb charger, works in Japan just fine. There is no danger to your kindle.

Just be considerate as to which outlets you use. Those in your hotel and train (shinkansen) are obviously okay to use. But those in commercial establishments may require permission, as they belong to the establishment and their electricity bill is their responsibility.
