No, it is not a ramen competition. Nor a competition among rice growers! It is American professional football. The San Francisco 49ers are playing the Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans, Louisiana on Feb 4. It is the football version of baseball's World series.

it's true - unlike the olympics which are spread out over two weeks the superbowl is on one day, and a huge percentage of americans tune in to watch it. not only do they watch it but they organize events, barbeques, etc. buy food. the superbowl has a very big consumer impact in the US, it's hugely important to the winter economy for many many industries.

The most important in the USA, perhaps. Mostly ignored outside North America.

It is the football version of baseball's World series.

That's a pretty funny analogy to make when the "World Series" features teams from two countries and is basically ignored by most of the world outside North America, although I guess it probably has a few viewers in Japan.

The most important sporting event in the world???? Some yanks still thinks the U.S. are the whole world... you should go OUTSIDE USA, Canada and maybe Mexico and you will see, almost NOBODY knows about the Superbowl.

I'm happy that I made some of you laugh. I know the history why it is called "football", but I still think they should have went with some other name and left "football" to the real association football. At least rugby is called rugby and not something like "commonwealth football". That's smart. :)
