@Uco, sure, sometimes restaurants/ryokans are willing to work with you if you have someone fluent who can call up and discuss dietary restrictions ahead of time. Sometimes you can even get positive results emailing a ryokan ahead of time.

But these involve either having someone completely fluent to help you out which most tourists do not have or wanting to stay in a ryokan enough to hope they will accommodate you. (And sometimes they just won't, it really varies.)

Right. I just wanted to give an option to those interested. That said, I myself have spent my money to stay at a hotel where there is a reliable concierge. I phoned (in pre-email days) in advance to see if there is one. The concierge did made all our reservations, and explained our needs each time she did. I am a Japanese-speaking local, yes, but it's possible to send inquiries, before booking accommodation, to see who could accommodate you best.

Izakayas can be smoky.

I regret that I hesitated to make my previous post any longer, but all the izakayas I visited in Sapporo had a tall closet where customers can store their jackets. You don't see anything like this in Kanto Region. Also, I find that hardly any izakaya is smoky today, as they have a great smoke neutralizer and even air-purifying equipment. May I add that I see even the tiniest eat-ins throughout Japan installing air-purifying equipment because of the pandemic.

Again, just providing options.

Sorry. I accidentally posted the sentence before translation.→
I have only been to Hokkaido twice, but I especially love Shiretoko.
The Shiretoko season begins in June.

The first time I went, I went Hakodate-Sapporo-Sounkyo-Lake Mashu-Lake Akan (with Ainu Kotan)-Shiretoko-Kushiro. I went to Onuma Park by train.
I went there in August, and the nature of Hokkaido is so dynamic that it cannot be compared anywhere (about the size of Kyushu and Shikoku combined).
The second time, I went to Sapporo and Otaru.
In terms of history, there are Jomon archaeological sites that were selected as World Heritage Sites in Hokkaido last year. I've never been there, so I don't know if it's interesting.
I was interested in the Sannai-Maruyama ruins in Aomori.

In Sapporo, I've never been there either, but I'm interested in the pioneering villages of Hokkaido.

Goryokaku in Hakodate is known as the place where Toshizo Hijikata of the Shinsengumi fought.

On the other side of Mt. Hakodate, there are remains of old fortresses.

Hitsujigaoka in Sapporo is known for having a statue of Dr. Clark who said "Boys Be Ambitious".

I became a loose Pescatarian about two years ago.
So I don't eat meat products. (I have rarely eaten ham in potato salad.)
Recently, some supermarkets have started selling alternative meats (such as soy meat). Occasionally, I buy soy ham and chickpea pasta at Aeon.
The old one is Saniku Foods, which is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
