I don't like a hairly woman. 2006/7/4 09:27
In Japan, both women and men do not like female body hair generally.
So, always women get their body hair vanished with small machines.
Of course,It is very hard way
.
So, here an operation called" EIKYU DATSUMOU" is sometimes done.
The operation cremates pores of the skin close with a laser beam gun.

the shaving-the-forearm hair thing isnt just a japanese thing, a lot of my indian friends and even my cousin (who is black) does it and we live in the uk. laura if your forearm hair isnt thick/long leave it alone. not only is there a lot of hassle with regrowth (from what ive heard), but also you have to consider whether or not it's worth changing your image just to visit somewhere else...and in my eyes that's just ridiculous.
japan is supposed to be a lot more diverse than people think, i was recently looking at japanese dancehall and reggae where theres a whole following of people hooked on everything that comes out of jamaica (they even speak english in jamaican dialects). so if you've got people into all of that, as well as an ever growing population of foreigners in the country then i hardly think a slight bit of bodily hair is going to cause a stir.

n.b - if you do decide to get rid, use hair removal cream, the hair apparently grows back smoother/less stubbly.

Just fyi... 2006/9/5 11:09
I recently shaved my arms, and at first it was great...but not for long. I have dark hair and I'm pretty hairy for a chick (though I wouldn't say "manly"), and the regrowth is really distracting to me. Rub it the wrong way, and... =P I'm waiting for it to grow out over this week and then I'm going back to waxing. More painful, yes, but you get better results. If you feel overly hairy, I suggest waxing. I use this Sally Hansen cold wax-type stuff--works for me, but I'm sure there's better stuff out there. It's just getting past the initial pain that's hard! XP (I feel intimidated by less hairy women--even guys who are hair-challenged, or in this case japanese guys! =] Using wax makes me feel better about the whole thing, heheh. It's really up to you. If it'll make you feel better in the long run, go for it.)

Nasty Hair 2007/8/3 09:56
I am a teenage girl living in the USA. And I (thanks to my dad and grandpa's terrible genes) have very hairy arms, hairy lower back, butt, and a little longer peach fuzz on my stomach and pretty much everywhere. I don't look hairy at all because it is all blonde. But my arm hair was noticeable no matter how light it was because it was so long and sort of thick. I have been shaving for a few months and I love the way my arms feel after I shaved. But after a couple days, I face reality and realize that the shaving will never stop!!!! It is so annoying feeling stubbly arms. I am trying to let them grow out to see just how much damage shaving has done. I'm afraid it will be darker and much thicker. Before I started shaving, it was long and straight and laid a certain way on my arm. But it was still very noticable. I do NOT want to wax, as that will hurt SO much with all my arm hair. I also tried the Nair product and it burnt my arms. I left it in for only 5 minutes and it removed all hair, but the next couple weeks, my arms were in such pain and had little red dots from where it burnt my hair the worst. The dots were so noticeable and ugly, I'm not doing that again! I've never bleached but it sounds tempting. i have one of those Conair Home Barber Kits. Once the hair finally grows out, I think I will just use the razor to thin it out. I tried this once a couple years ago, and it worked the best out of everything. And the hair does not grow back as fast. Certainly feels better than shaving too!

PS: I only shave my arms because my boyfriend prefers the less hairy look. I basically do it for him and myself. Because in America, people don't often want to see hairy arms. Yuck!

Nair 2007/8/3 11:18
Nair burns my skin/make me break out as well. I've never met anyone who can deal with that product.

I like NADS.

Do not feel pressurised into shaving, bleaching, or waxing your arms! You are not Japanese, and therefore should feel no pressure to conform to an aesthetic cultural difference that really has a change on your body.

I have latin blood and, as such, I am very dark haired. As a child, I sometimes used to get embarrased as, because my body hair is darker than my olive skin, it showed up quite easily. The hair on my arms and legs is very dark. While I shave my legs, I would never do so to my arms. My arms are no display much more often, and the idea of 'arm stubble' does NOT appeal to me at all!

If a Japanese woman came over here, I would not expect her to go and get tattoos and piercings, as is common for many western women, so don't go over there and feel you are expected to shave your arms. You are different, and you should be proud of it!

laser hair removal 2007/8/4 07:06
These days J women go to laser hair removal and remove arm pit,arm and leg hair all together.

I'm J-woman, and I always hear people talking about it, even have their tiny finger hair removed. When I was a high school student, some girls were bleaching hair on their arms.

But I don't think foreign people in Japan are expected to be the same way, so you don't need to worry about it!

I recommend bleach 2007/8/6 01:06
Yeah, I didn't think much about my arm hair prior coming to Japan but I suppose since I am not exactly Japanese, I can get away with it. I just bleach mine out; didn't want to remove the hair and have that in-between period where it's growing but you have to wait until it's long enough to do anything about it. Though, I am finding Japanese bleach products very weak. Don't know why but I have to bleach them more often than I did in the US.
Besides, if some people find me hairy, so what? It isn't like being hairless Japanese is the norm of the world, eh?

pfff 2007/8/6 03:20
My jp bf asked me not to shave ANYWHERE.
That aside, I wouldnt need a man who'd get turned off by something as trivial as lower-arm-hair. Just like I would break up with a bf who would demand me to lose weight, or gain it , for that matter. There are things so much more important than that, and if it makes YOU feel better for YOU then go shave , if you couldnt care less , then keep it that way.

Just my 2cents

I can relate.. trust me. 2007/9/24 03:04
I used to shave my arms and dont anymore, and i hate it. My Grandma is the reason for it, because when i was very little she shaved them for me and bought me shavers for them. Iwas too little to understand what would happen. So now i cant wear t-shirts, or anything showing my arms becuase im too self-concious. if i could take it back i would but its too late. Trust me. Dont shave your arms. If they are too dark, then just buy hair bleaching products. They are sold pretty much anywhere. I use Jolen, and i dont like it. the darkness comes back in 1 weeek. I heard that there is one, Sally Hanson exrta strength hair bleacher, and it works really good. i will try it out and let you know.

remove it....... 2007/10/28 14:38
hi ..... many women/girls suffer from Hair in their body ...becouse of certain food like Chickens and some product usually Beauty products. For advice do not shave them but use wax, or suger as they will grow after 2-4 weeks & become more soft and after you wax or use suger do not wash your body and use olive oil right away and after 2hrs get cold shower. hope to help you with that. Take care

answer to laura's question. 2008/1/7 15:14
when i was in grade 5, i was told to shave my arms and i did. my arms werent that bad to begin with but they got worse. trust me. for the past 3 years ive been hiding my arms by not wearing t-shirts or anything that shows my arms (which can get hot in the summer...) just take this advice and dont worry about your arms now. otherwise you will end up obsessing about it like me. its honestly horrible. i really dont know what to do. im thinking about the laser thing, but i dont know anything about it.

well hope this helps you laura, and good luck. =)

hi, i know how you feel honey. I have a hormone problem that ive had since i was a kid wich has left me with dark hair on my arms, legs and other places. Shaving or hair removal cream ( i use sally hansen extra srength, it works pretty good) works for the most part. But as far as arms go, listen to them, NEVER shave them, unless you plan on doing it every single day for the rest of your life to keep the stubble/dark hair away, but i use a hair lighening cream from AVON it worked really well for me, n just a week my arm hair was light and thin, barely noticable, so that is my suggestion to you. Also, my friend that grew up in Japan said that they really dont care as long as they arent manly arms, japanese women are naturally less hairy, but he said most of his guy friends over there wouldnt give a little extra hair another thought, he is 25.

in addition to my above post, i am actually thinking of getting lasik laser hair removal on my face. That is another option if you have the money and time to do it. I dont know how painful it is though..... that is the only thing keeping me from doing it right now, because some people say it dosent hurt at all, then some say it hurts badly, so, i dunno...
