Re: Naturalization in 2022 2023/11/15 16:07
@beek

18 months is a big wait. Did you change job/address after application?
May be a special case so taking lot of time for investigation.
I think it depends on your tantousha also. If he is fast then it should be processed within few months.

by the way, where did you submit your application? which houmukyoku?

Re: Naturalization in 2022 2023/11/17 13:09
I have plan to travel abroad this december.
Last week got call from tantousha to check job status, family, foregin trip planned recently?
I told him no change or plans to go abroad this month.

Should i have told him that i will fly aborad december end?
I heard that when they call to check the status, normally 1-2 weeks your name should be there in Kanpou.

In case if name appears in Kanpou then how much time will be needed to get the passport?
Any leads will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Naturalization in 2022 2023/11/18 14:53
Hi sandy,

You need to expect around 3 weeks from the time your name shows in the kanpo.

Around 2 for koseki, and 1 week for passport.

So I think if your travel is around the end of December it should be okay I think.

@ Thomas (guest)

Thank you so much for your reply.
I will wait for another one week or max 2 weeks and then inform my tantousha about travel plan.

I hope it doesn’t fall in between my trip.
Also in case if I am naturalized , the visa for my family will be cancelled ( currently dependent of PR ).
I have applied for me only and not family for naturalization

I think I need time to change their stays of residence also.

Re: Naturalization in 2023 2023/11/22 18:56
Hi all,

I submitted my application in May, 2023, and end of August I faced my interview. My interview was only 17 minutes in total. They didn't take any interview from my wife. My tantousha said, all documents are Ok and asked for some normal questions.
I am waiting for my result.
Is there anyone experience like me? I would appreciate it if you could share your experience.

I applied from Saitama Homkyukoku.

@ Mifta

It seems that your tantousha is more convinced after you submitted documents and in simple cases they wont grill you much for interview.
I also had same kind of interview, short and few questions to double check the application.

If your tantousha is supportive then no need to worry about interview and all.
Just wait for results. I think in your case its pretty fast from submission to Interview.
You can expect results this year.

Re: Naturalization in 2022 2023/11/23 18:29
Hello All,

How are you doing?
I've been reading this thread for the past few days and I just finished it all.
Also, congratulations to all who have received good news and got their naturalization. For those who are still waiting for an update from their tantousha, don't lose hope because you'll get contacted soon. Wishing you'll have a positive result when that call comes. Fighting! And for those who received a not so-good result, don't lose hope also. You can do it again! Apply again whenever you're ready.

I'm planning to apply some time next year if time permits me but I have a few questions in mind that I can't find an answer to it and I hope some of you can give some opinion or insights about that situation. Thank you in advance and I really appreciate your help!

Just a brief introduction about myself.
-Living in Japan for 5 years (Arrived in Japan last April 2018)
-Arrived as a student and studied Japanese in a language school for a year (April 2018-May 2019)
-Employed to a Japanese company but they required me to go home in my home country for changing of visa (Left Japan on June 2019)
-Arrived to Japan again (August 30, 2019) for work (officially employed in papers)
-Working in a Japanese company for 4 years (September 2019-Present)
-I'm 28 yrs. old and holding an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa

Here are my questions:

1. Do you have some savings in your bank when you applied for naturalization? If you have (only if your comfortable to say it), could you tell me how much you have? It's okay if it is just an estimate. I just want to have an idea on the amount.
2. When I want to have a part-time work aside from my full time work, I request a permission from my company but they rejected my request. Since I needed some more money, I worked part-time online for an international company and my salary is wired through my japan bank account. I haven't stated it so technically, I didn't pay a tax from that income. Is this gonna be a problem when I apply? The money that I got from that part-time didn't accumulate in my bank account since I used that to pay bills, send money/goods (necessities/gifts sometimes) to my siblings, etc.
3. About the motivation letter, how long did you write? Did you have 2 or 3-page essay? Or more than that?
4. If I want to invite my siblings to go here either for travel or living, how will it affect the visa application of my siblings if my naturalization has been granted? I'm just wondering what will be the process of this.
5. It seems that changing of jobs may cause a delay in the application, I'm thinking to change job first then apply for naturalization. But based on what I read in different articles and blogs, they said that it is advisable if you're already working for a year in the current company when you apply for naturalization. How true is this?
6. I've already been applying to companies for months now (nearly a year, I think) but up until today there's no good news about the new job so I'm torn either on staying here in my current company and apply for naturalization, or push myself to find another job then wait and work for at least a year, then apply for naturalization. The reason that I want to change my job is that currently I've been experiencing a power harassment from my leader (on multiple occasions) and it feels like coming to work is draining me especially to my mental health.

Thank you for taking time to read my long message. I hope I'll get some answers to my questions.

Have a good day to you all!

Naturalization in Japan is basically they check your stability and other requirements if they are met or not.

1. Your savings wont affect much but a stable job and income source is must.
2. If you havent declared the part-time income to your tax office then it will be a problem but depends on how much you eanred through part time. if it is less than 200k JPY/financial year then no need to worry.
3. motivation letter need not to be a long. If you can specify your background, and reason for option citizenship and your future plans then it should be OK. it needs to be handwritten.
4. If your relatives , friends can get tourist visa then no issue. if dependent (wife, kids) then need to apply a VISA.
5. You need to be in company at least 1 year (full time employyee) to make sure that you have stable income. I will suggest at least to have one complete financial year with one company so easy to get thenenkin, tax related documents. frequently changing company isnt a good idea.
6. You can apply to naturalization in current situationa and once job is changed then explain your tantousha why did you change and if they are convinced with answer then need not to be worried. But agian they will aks the additional documents and it will take time to process application.
Anyways, strating discussion with houmukyoku at early stage is always good as you have to wait months just to get initial appointment.

Applying to citizenship is a lenghty process and need to wait a longer.

Apart form this, during your 5 years period, you had been without VISA for couple ofmonths (left Japan temporarily and come back). This point need to be checked with houmukyoku.

All the best !!!

Re: Naturalization in 2022 2023/11/25 00:02
@Sandy4Naturalization

Thank you for your answers. I really appreciate it!

1. Understood this one. Thank you! I'm worried and the idea in my head is that I needed to have savings in my account before I can apply for citizenship.
2. Do I need to declare the part-time work even it is an international employer and an online work? Also, if I declare it, wouldn't it be a problem? I really don't understand how this works. But I just needed extra money on that time that why I did it. I think I received more than 200k JPY in a year but it is not on a monthly basis salary and the amount is not fixed since it depends on the project.
3. Got it! Thanks!
4. For my siblings, I'll be the guarantor and inviter for the both of them so I'm wondering if naturalization has an impact to their visa application. If luckily, naturalization is granted, technically, I'm Japanese and my siblings are not. So, does it affect the visa application or it does not matter who is your guarantor/inviter?
5. Thanks for the idea! Yeah, I also have read that. At some point, changing jobs has a factor on your application but I haven't change jobs ever since I started working in Japan.
6. Understood! Thank you for your insights! I appreaciate it!
I think I'll need to get a new job first then I'll book an appointment once I've already reached the 1-year mark on that new company.

Yeah, I have read all of your messages in this thread. It's a lengthy process but we know it will be worth the wait, right? That's why as early as now, I'm starting to research about things and also starting to ready myself for this big step.

That's why I'm thinking to apply once I hit the 5-year mark of working in Japan. It's not that I disregard my stay when I'm a student, but just to be "safe" but definitely will check that with houmukyoku.

Thank you so much!

Have a good day and take care!

Sending my best wishes to everyone.

I think you all apply to Saitama Homukyoku.

Can you all please tell me there is a written test when submitting the document?

I have jlpt N2, but I am worrying about the test.

Please can you let me know there is a written test when submitting the document or at the interview?

And what kind of test is it?

Thank you all

Re: Naturalization in 2022 2023/11/27 13:02
When I took interview, no test. The person in charge told me that it was not needed as I could fill some documents in Japanese in front of him (just wrote 卒業 in front of him ) and could read the document where I promise to respect Japan constitution. And he showed me what would have been the test ( just be able to read and write Kanji up to 3 rd year of primary school , some basic conversion from Katakana to Hiragana)
I do no have any JLPT, but was in Japan for already 18 years . Just learned by myself the language.

Interview was fast and I was approved in 6 months. The most difficult part was with the authority of my country of origin that were slow to give proof of nationality renounciation.

@Olive(guest),
Interview was fast and I was approved in 6 months.
-> does it mean the whole process took 6 months only? Or was it after interview?
How many weeks beforeyou got the call from tantousha checking on your hob stattus, travel plan outside japan etc? Did he mention about your application approval that time?

Would be helpful if you can share the total span from when you started and when they approved?
which houmukyoku?

Thanks
