COE processing times

My university applied for my CoE for me around early May and still nothing (the same goes for other people from my home university going to Japan). I am getting a little bit frustrated. I contacted my embassy to ask if there is any way to speed the process of visa application up and I'm waiting for the reply, but I am supposed to leave September 19th - so, if the CoE doesn't arrive until September 15th at the latest, there is no way I can leave on time.

Hi everyone. I�fm really glad to update this thread and say that my COE was finally issued from Osaka immigration as of 8/29!

From my application on 7/7 to 8/28, about 7 weeks total. I really hope that you guys get similar news soon. Hang in there. Surely everyone will have theirs soon too.

@hayashi8tk Congratulations on getting your COE! I still hadn't receive any notifications or updates from my university despite it being almost 3 months in..... Starting to panic a little to be honest...

We're patiently waiting for any news from my daughters university re: COE. Cautiously optimistic but this waiting is tiring!

She submitted application to university mid June.

My parents applied for me and my husband for child of national and spouse on June 23. Asked for more info on August 4. Haven�ft heard anything else yet, hopefully soon since we�fre hoping to move in October.

So begins day 50 of waiting with no news. I contacted my visa sponsor earlier this week, and they said there hasn't been any word. I'm supposed to be there in three weeks.
Like they say in the Irishman, I'm more than a little concerned.

Hi all - As the information of others was useful for me, I wanted to post my timeline now that I have an update. My university department (at one of the major Tokyo universities) applied for COEs for exchange students on 28 June. They have been informed today (30 August) that they will receive the COEs shortly. So, a nine-week wait in my case.

I notice that even people in similar situations (student COEs in Tokyo) have quite different timelines. I wonder if the date that semesters begin has any factor, rather than simply when the application was made?

That is good to hear, I'm not applying to a major university but since I also applied in June and others seem to have a similar timeline I hope we will all get our COE in this batch.

I�fve posted a few times already. I�fm still waiting on my CoE, still no word yet. Unfortunately for me classes have already begun. It�fs been 71 days since my CoE application was submitted
by my university.

I�fve seen a few people mention the CoE�fs are distributed in batches?
Does anyone have anymore information on that? Or knows how frequently these batches are sent out? Is it once a week?

It�fs hard to determine which universities are prioritized during the CoE reviews. It can�ft be based on �gstart-date�h cause my classes are already underway and still nothing as of yet.

Hello everyone! I just got informed by my University that my COE was issued a few days ago and they just received it. I personally believe the date your university or work starts also influence when the COE gets issued. My university starts class in just a month and my visa appointment is on September 15.

COE arrived!

Now we have to submit more documents online before we can go to our embassy (Los Angeles) which we found out is not taking appointments but you have to mail in application or drop off. More waiting but we're starting to feel hopeful!

My university applied for my COE on 7/7 in the Osaka region. Is there anybody who applied in this region and receive COE? Since It has been 8 weeks now and I am still waiting. Pretty nervous. I really hope to get it soon.

Mine and my husbands COE�fs were received today. What a relief! It does seem like
They go out in batches.

Immigration lawyers submitted to Tokyo Immigration Bureau on August 26, with examination finished on September 1 (today). Now I'm waiting for COE through mail and for the ERFS certificate.

Took 17 days (2 weeks 3 days) for my work visa under Engineer category, but be aware that this was handled with priority (at least from lawyers side) as my company took a long long time to just set process up with the lawyers..

Just wanted to share here as I haven't seen many regarding work visa and seeing other comments has helped me to not stress out in the past.

Me and my husband applied for the COE on 8th of June and the immigration requested for few documents from the company. It�fs been nearly 3 months now and no update. Starting to panic but since i know it�fll take some time, bit relieved. Hope it�fll drag more than 3 months.

I seem to have gotten the short end of the stick. My COE application was submitted around April 2nd.. still nothing from the immigration office. It feels like it just will never happen at this rate. Does anyone else share my suffering here?

Anyone here applying as tokutei ginou? I wanna ask how many weeks/months before you got your COE? thanks guys..

Immigration submitted to: Nagoya
Date received back: Sept 2nd
Time taken: 30 days

This thread has been really helpful so I wanted to share my COE timeline as a future graduate student:

July 27, 2022 : Documents submitted to the university (I don't know exactly when the university submitted my application to the immigraiton services.
September 2, 1022 : I got notified that my COE was issued and being sent to me.

For my case, approximately 68 days processing time at the immigration service in Tokyo area.

Fingers crossed for everyone else waiting for their COE!
