Hiroshima Station completes major facelift

Over the past few years, Hiroshima Station has undergone a major transformation - completed in early August 2025 - that turned the once average transportation hub into one of Japan's most user-friendly and attractive railway stations.
Trams now enter the station on the second floor
The most notable upgrade is the relocation of tram platforms to the station's second floor, directly integrated into the station building. This change, which became effective on August 3, has greatly improved the transfer experience for travelers arriving in Hiroshima by train and heading into the city by tram and vice-versa.

Along with the platform relocation, the tram network itself has been improved with shorter travel times, cutting off about 4 minutes from the ride into the city center. In addition to the improvements achieved this year, a new tram loop line is scheduled to launch next year, promising even better connectivity across central Hiroshima, especially for residents.

Shopping, dining and relaxation spaces
Attached to the station is a new, attractive shopping and dining complex, called Minamoa, which offers a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants. Furthermore, the upper floors and rooftop areas feature nice terraces and open-air spaces, offering a pleasant place to relax or enjoy views of the city.

A new Granvia Hotel
The redevelopment also includes the opening of a new Granvia Hotel, the Hotel Granvia Hiroshima South Gate, seamlessly connected to and located on top of the station. With modern amenities and convenient access to transportation, dining and shopping, it ranks among the most convenient lodgings in the city.
