The following is a suggested one day itinerary of the Kyu-Karuizawa district in Karuizawa. This average paced itinerary makes use of public buses to access the attractions over the course of the day, making it suitable for those who would prefer to not walk too much. Those interested in shopping can consider ending their day at the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza or staying overnight to extend their stay and visiting the nearby Naka-Karuizawa the following day.

Shiraito Waterfall
A waterfall in the forest 30 to 45 minutes
Shiraito Waterfall is a waterfall located in a forested area north of downtown Karuizawa. The waterfall is three meters high and 70 meters wide and has many streams of water that resemble a curtain of strings of white thread. Shiraito no taki is most beautiful in summer when it is surrounded by lush greenery.

Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza is the area's main shopping street that is lined with many shops offering local products and souvenirs. There are also a variety of dining options at the eateries and restaurants nearby.

Usui Pass Observation Platform
Observation platform 30 to 45 minutes
The Usui Pass Observation Platform offers panoramic views of the nearby mountain ranges, as well as a slightly obscured view of Mt Asama, an active volcano. The platform is also one of the few places in Japan to straddle prefectural borders and allows visitors to be in two prefectures-Nagano and Gunma-at the same time.

Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza

Located just across from Karuizawa Station, this is one of Japan's largest outlet malls offering a wide variety of brands, from high fashion to outdoor goods, home and lifestyle products. There are also a number of dining establishments here, making it a one stop tourist attraction. The mall is also surrounded by pleasant greenery and also offers a view of the nearby active volcano, Mount Asama.

Kumobaike Pond

Kumobaike is a photogenic pond located about a 15 minute walk from either the Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza shopping street or Karuizawa Station. The pond is lovely to visit any time of the year but is most popular during the autumn color season when leaves around the pond change colors.
