March 15, 2016 - Go-Karting through the heart of Tokyo

https://youtu.be/hJSFh5yeNjo (video with highlights)

After seeing go-karts driving around the city with people dressed up for months my friends and I finally did it ourselves. (we've lived here 18 months)

We went with maricar.com and they were able to accommodate the 18 of us easily. There are other companies that do it, this activity has gotten popular the last year or two.

For 5,000 yen/person we got a 3 hr tour, 3 guides and free use of the costumes.

It was an AWESOME time and we definitely recommend it to anyone.

PROs:
Price was all-inclusive (not sure if it was a group rate)
The karts were quick and responsive
Easy ~12 min walk from Shinagawa Station

CONs:
It was cold in March (wear gloves)
Lotta wind in yo face (wear sunglasses)
Not a lot of room for error (be careful)

In hindsight a group of 18 was a bit too big. We spent a lot of time waiting for people at the back to catch up. Also, make sure you're on your A-game and ready to drive. It's definitely not something you want to be hungover for or very tired.

For people passing through Tokyo you'll need to check if a driver's license from your country is accepted or if you need to get an international driver's license in advance.

We started in Shinagawa, drove past Tokyo Tower, through Roppongi, then through Shibuya crossing 3 separate times. There are other packages that will take you across the Rainbow Bridge. We were ready to be done at the end of our three hours though.
