Best all around pass with Tokaido Shinkansen

In early April I will be mostly in the Kyoto area so I will purchase a JR Pass. Especially since I will be flying in to Kansai. I'm thinking of going to Tokyo for one day on the Tokaido Shinkansen. Is there an inexpensive roundtrip pass that I could purchase? Would having the JR Pass help?
