What is good to see Gion in the daytime? Any chance of seeing Geisha or chances is higher in the evening? Will be in Kyoto early June. Prior to Gion, will visit Kiyomizu temple.

The old building facades of Hanamikoji and the Shirakawa canal are somewhat interesting at anytime of the day. But overall, I think that the Higashiyama district is more interesting during daytime. The chances to see maiko or geiko are lower during the daytime. You may come across fake maiko, though, who many people have problems to distinguish from real maiko and who are more happy to be taken photos of than real maiko.

It is quite nice in the daytime, especially the path back toward Kiyomizudera. I dont particularly like Gion at night. Gion corner is fine but some of it is a red light district and it is quite seedy and borderline sinister.
