Hi, I will be staying in Nissyokan Shoshintei Hotel,Kyoto from the 12-15th of July 2013. Are there any recommended places to go to Kyoto and the best way to reach there? Should i book any day tours? Where can i book the day tours? Is there any nice shopping malls in Kyoto? Thank you

Hi there, just upon my personal experience (spring 2010 ... so a looong time ago sadly): in Kyoto I would def. recommend the following places: - KIYOMIZU DERA - FUSHIMI INARI JINJA (well, it is in Inari, but some 10 mins from Kyoto station & def. worth visiting imho) - both silver & golden pavillion (ginkakuji & kinkakuji) with its gardens nearby (straight within the area) are very nice (even though quite crowdy places) - Philosopher's Path is a very nice walk & time to spent (you can start next to Ginkakuji).
so, just few notes, enjoy Japan

Iconic Kyoto: 3 HUGE days
1. Ginkakuji to Kiyomizudera: ie all of Higashiyama:
2. Sanjusangendo; Fushimi Inari; rest of day to Nara IF that is part of the plan, otherwise you could fit in the things *** I've listed as being left out
3.Kinkakuji,Ryoanji, Arashiyama
****That misses out Nijijo, Nishiki Market,Heian Shrine....
Go to Gion/Pontoncho at night
You cant do it all in 3 days: we have had 4 trips, about 12 days in Kyoto, and still not touched the surface
READ and RESEARCH and decide what interests you: everyone is different
Enjoy!!

Depends what you like to see.
Kyoto - More places to see (temples, shrines, views, DO check out Arashiyama along with aforementioned places) (Also Nara is good for a day trip).
Osaka - A few temples/shrines, but much better area for shopping / city views / eating. Wander around Umeda and Nanba stations, shops galore.
