New Japan Rail Pass 2013/7/9 11:13
Hi,

I have bought a Japan rail pass from
http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/?ap=j0095g

But, now I see a notification on japan-guide, that "Various other versions of the pass, including passes to be used on five consecutive days, ten consecutive days and four flexible days were discontinued in June 2013"

Does this mean what I bought o=is no more valid? Should I ask the service provider to send me new pass?
Or will I be given the valid pass once I visit japan?

Time of visit is in august for 10 days. I'm planning to visit Narita - Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka - Tokyo

Can you please suggest.

thanks,
Srujan.

No "new" Japan Rail Pass. (link : JR official site)
http://www.japanrailpass.net/eng/en003.html

You read "JR East Pass" update news.
https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/index.html
https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/eastpass/index.html

But JR East pass not covered Kyoto and Osaka(JR WEST area).

You have bought an Exchange Voucher for a Japan Rail Pass, terms of use of which has not changed. It is valid Japan -wide on JR lines.

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_02.html
explains the new J R East Pass, a different pass entirely, and not suitable for your travel plans.

So what you have bought is suitable. I assume it is a 7 day pass, because that will pay off.
You will need to plan so the pass days of usage get you back from Kyoto/Osaka to Tokyo, and out the airport.

Good luck!

Disclosure: I work for a company selling Japan products including JR Passes.

Just to lend weight to the above answers:

JR East have recently changed their product line-up. That's the notice you saw. The Japan Rail Pass is separate to that and you'll be fine :-).
