Hiroshima Peace Museum opening hours

We are visiting Kyoto for 4 nights between 26/12/13 and 29/12/13, and wondering if it is worth visiting Hiroshima as either a day trip from Kyoto, or an overnight stay. As this is a holiday period in Japan, will the Peace Museum be open during these dates? How long does it take on the shinkansen from Kyoto?

the museum will be closed from 29/12 until 01/01 but open all other days from 0830-1730 by Shinkansen (hikari) it will take approx 120-160mins
