Fastest train route Minakami to Tsumago

I am planning a holiday in Japan and want to go to Minakami for an onsen experience and also Tsumago to walk Tsumago/Magome trail. I will have a JR pass and also plan to spend time in Tokyo and Kyoto.
What is the fastest rail route between these Minakami and Tsumago and how long will it take?
Would I better to stop in Tsumago while traveling between Tokyo/Kyoto and visit Minakame separately from Tokyo?

I have to agree to JC - use Hyperdia or Jorudan. I would however suggest starting at Megome unless you want to walk up instead of down for a couple of hours
